ROYAL ENGINEERS’ OBLISK

ROYAL ENGINEERS’ OBLISK

By Yeoman Mason Ayako Furuno

I was fortunate enough to be commissioned by the Royal Engineers to design, carve and fix some additional plaques to the Kitchener Obelisk at the Headquarters of the Royal Engineers in Chatham, Kent. The additional plaques show the theatres of war in which a member of the Royal Engineers has lost their life since the obelisk’s original erection

The work was completed and fixed in September and it has been a tremendous privilege to work on such a meaningful project as this –made all the more poignant by it being the centenary of the ending of WW1.

I am very grateful to the Worshipful Company of Masons for making the introduction and my participation possible.
