Financial Support

The Masons Company Craft Fund is willing to consider any applicant wishing to enroll in an approved training course in the craft of stonemasonry, either full time or part time, if supported by an employer. Exceptionally, it may be willing to consider applications from recommended persons who are training independently. The Training Co-ordinator and the Craft and Training Committee will wish to be satisfied that applicants are committed to staying in the craft and industry after their courses.

The Masons’ Company Training Scheme

This scheme is to award grants to well-motivated and qualified applicants who are likely to remain in the trade.

Primarily awards are made to students at the two main London colleges, Building Crafts College and City & Guilds of London Art School plus Weymouth and Moulton Colleges although awards can be made to other colleges offering qualifying and approved stonemasonry courses.

An award is available for any student who has gained a place at an approved training establishment where a student will gain a City and Guilds qualification, NVQ3, a Diploma in Stonemasonry leading to an NVQ3 qualification or a Diploma in Stone Carving providing the student has obtained an NVQ3 under previous training.

The awards are subject to the usual conditions of attendance and progress including regular reports to the Craft Fund by the college concerned, and students initially supported on courses of more than one year at any educational establishment will be awarded grants annually so as to complete their course.

Students should apply for awards using the standard application form on the Application Forms page (see left) or they can download a PDF version by clicking here. Please print this form, complete and post to the Clerk.
