Today the Masons’ Company is active in its support of vocational training for the stone industry and general education in deprived areas of the UK.
The Company supports the craft of stonemasonry through providing financial assistance to students and apprentices for their instruction courses.
It works closely with a number of colleges and in particular the Building Crafts College and with the City and Guilds of London Art School where the emphasis is on vocation training in the craft of stonemasonry and stone carving.
The Masons’ Company also encourages skilled stonemasons to further their craft by The Duke of Gloucester Awards.
The Company is represented on the Council of City and Guilds, which is the largest awarding body for vocational training in the UK and overseas.
The Company is actively supporting the new Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship which was established to promote exchange of apprentices between cathedrals to enhance their knowledge of working with different types of stone and in different environments.
In the field of general education the Company along with 43 other Livery Companies supports the work of the Livery Schools Link, which assists in raising aspirations of pupils from areas of deprivation across the UK.
