The Duke of Gloucester Gold Medal for Stonemasonry
The Duke of Gloucester Gold Medal for Stonemasonry is the ultimate accolade to
an individual in the stone industry who has already achieved recognition from
amongst their peers and will be promoted jointly by the Masons’ Company and Stone
Federation Great Britain.
The Award will be made every three years. The individual will be proposed by their peers and judged by a panel of five to include two representatives each from the Masons’ Company and the Stone Federation, under the chairmanship of HRH The Duke of Gloucester.
The main criteria
• The individual will have a portfolio of projects achieved over the years along with testimony from the industry (employers, employees, architects, surveyors, local authorities etc.). The Company and the Federation can make direct nominations.
• The individual will have a proven record of supervision or management or both.
• The nominee will have been instrumental in training apprentices, leading to an approved qualification in the craft of stonemasonry.
• The nominee will have made a major contribution to the industry and/or be an exceptional craftsperson.
The final nominee will be approved by both the Company and the Federation.
[Whilst the Gold Medal is supported by both organisations it will be administered
by the organisations on an alternative basis. The first Gold Medal will be presented
in October 2010 and will be organised by Stone Federation Great Britain and in
2013 by The Worshipful Company of Masons. For more details see the Awards section
on this website.
