Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship
Eight cathedrals and Westminster Abbey joined together in 2006 to promote and improve the training of apprentice stonemasons.
The Fellowship will promote exchanges of apprentices between the cathedrals so that they have opportunities to experience working on different types of stone and learn about all the different techniques employed. The Fellowship will also aim to raise the profile of apprenticeships in the hope of attracting more young people into stonemasonry as a career and highlight the importance of maintaining and funding masons’ teams working on cathedrals.
The Fellowship was launched at a week-long workshop in October at Gloucester Cathedral by David Beattie, The Master of the Worshipful Company of Masons, who read a letter of support from its Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, and the Dean of Gloucester, the Very Rev. Nicholas Bury.
